Statement of Purpose

My major in Computer Science did not start as what I initially expected. Although my Advanced Subject Test (similar to the GRE in U.S.) score did not get me into C.S. major, I still spent time off class to prepare for the transfer. I finally succeeded as 2nd place for the Spring 2010 enrollment into the Dept. of C.S & E., Hungkuang University.

It was one of the determinations I took for my strong interest in computer science. Another one was joining the Android App Club of Hungkuang University, where I received lots of guidance from Prof. Yao-tien WANG. An important task I signed up for was the App “Roll-call @ Hungkuang” dedicated for students’ class attendance. Using Objective-C as the programming language, this App took two members and me a year to complete. When it was launched, the recognition from many professors made all the efforts quite pay off. Working as the leader for the very first independent project, I accumulated very use experiences like how the framework of the App could be set for optimized efficiency, and how the roll-call records can be stored and retrieved at later time, etc. It could be definitely completed in a shorter time, but the teamwork was most enjoyed among the three of us.

In the Spring 2011 semester, I had the honor of inviting Prof. Yung-Yu Hsu as my instructor for my report Detection and Processing of Dynamic 3D Images of Project II. Aiming at more efficient detection of the 3D image and shorter time of image processing, my research won the runner up of the Dept. of C.S. & E.  With the roll-call App and this project report achieving their design goals, I am confident to accomplish new researches of more challenges.

While I keep focusing on enhancing my capabilities and academic performance, my preparation for studying abroad has being going on as planned. The Job Fair held by TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) that I attended in fall 2011 introduced further led me to a global view. I have since visioned my career in an international company like Aerial Burton for digital dynamic image design development. To bridge me to the goal, George Mason University can help me the best with its top-notched researches like Image recognition technology. If I could be honored the admission, I see the immediate benefit to me by taking the course Computer Vision (CS 682). I believe it best fits my interest and the experiences learned these years in graphic detection, processing, and conversion. It will be absolutely thrilling if I could deep dive into this field with the resources of George Mason University and contribute to the success for the advanced researches.

As a person of determination and commitment to excellence, I work towards my goal everyday though it might not be as fast as others. Given the opportunity to study at George Mason University in the computer science field, I will make my study at George Mason University the most critical stage for my career success in the future.
